I am Sharon Williams, a licensed clinical mental health counselor associate, as well as a wife and a mother of four grown sons: one Army veteran and one Airman. My background encompasses social work, teaching, advocacy, and parenting, which enrich my counseling services. With a holistic approach to counseling, I bring practical wisdom, clinical training, and unique insight to help you find meaningful connection and direction. Together, we will engage in hard conversations about reality and possibility, all within a safe environment.

The name, Living on Purpose Therapy, stems from the belief that everyone has the potential to lead a fulfilling and meaningful life, especially when you bravely and intentionally step toward your future. A therapist is a guide or companion as you intentionally pursue healing and wholeness. Connection is the goal and the medium through which healing can flow.  Whether it's individual or relationship counseling, I understand the whole person as a part of a system where attachment styles and communication patterns are both the source of pain and the path to healing.

Taking a holistic approach to counseling, we will focus on the mind, body, and spirit. I provide a variety of counseling services for individuals, couples, and families. Each service is tailored to meet the unique needs of every client. As a mental health counselor, I am trained in a range of evidence-based techniques and therapies, viewed through a trauma lens. These include, but are not limited to, CBT, DBT, Solution Focused, Person Centered, Choice Theory,  ACT, Motivational Interviewing, Systems theory, Gottman, and EFT style. I am a certified SYMBIS facilitator and offer the assessment to pre-married couples.

    Mindful Thoughts

    Watch the Gap

In a recent trip to NY, I remembered seeing this sign on the train station platform from previous trips and swiped this picture. It is obvious that there is a gap between the platform and the train but even the people who use it every day need to be reminded of the gap. I can safely say that I have gaps daily, that require me to trust, lean on, and be willing to admit to others that those gaps exist. When it comes to asking for help, going to a doctor, dentist, chiropractor, dermatologist, parent/teacher meeting, even counseling, it feels like I am admitting something is wrong and I don’t know how to fix it. Looking back at parenting my young children, admitting that they were sick or I couldn’t meet all their needs was a hard “humble” pill to swallow. Performance in life tells us we must make no mistakes and have it all together. However, Captain Obvious says, ‘watch the gap’. It takes strength to do this.

I know that coming to counseling takes strength to share your life and to trust someone to help you watch the gap. Counseling is simply that, a place to lean in to support from someone offering unconditional positive regard.

Inspirational quote over a serene ocean sunset scene.

"Nothing affects the life of a child so much as the unlived life of its parent."
